A spatial model of cognitive distance in cities

چکیده
Spatial cognition is fundamental to the behaviour and activity of humans in urban space. Humans perceive their environments with systematic biases errors, act upon these perceptions, which turn form patterns activity. These perceptions are influenced by a multitude factors, many them relating static form. Yet much geographic analysis ignores influence form, instead referring most commonly Euclidean arrangement In this paper, we propose novel spatial modelling framework for estimating cognitive distance This constructed from wealth research describing effect environmental factors on estimation, produces quantitative estimate based standard GIS data. Unlike other cost measures, integrates systematically observed distortions cognition. As proof-of-concept, implemented 26 cities worldwide using open data, producing comparative measure ‘cognitive accessibility’. The paper concludes discussion potential approach analysing systems, outlines areas further research.

Spatial distance in a technology gap model
This paper analyses the effect of locally bounded knowledge spillovers on regional differences in growth. A model will be developed that allows spillovers to take place across regions. Certain conditions determine the amount of spillovers a region receives. By use of simulations (with randomised parameter constellations), it is possible to examine the general behaviour of the model. It is found...
متن کاملA cognitive model of spatial path-planning
Planning a path to a destination, given a number of options and obstacles, is a common task. We suggest a two-component cognitive model that combines retrieval of knowledge about the environment with search guided by visual perception. In the first component, subsymbolic information, acquired during navigation, aids in the retrieval of declarative information representing possible paths to take...
متن کاملinvestigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures
deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...
A Cognitive Computational Model for Spatial Reasoning
In recent years a lot of psychological research efforts have been made in analyzing human spatial reasoning. Psychologists have used implicitly many spatial cognitive models, i.e. a model of how humans conceptualize spatial information and reason about it, based on the mental model theory to model their experimental findings. But only little effort has been put into identifying from an algorith...
متن کاملA Cognitive Model for Spatial Perspective taking
When communicating with other people, one of the basic things that people must do is take others’ perspectives. Most of the experimental work on spatial language and perspective taking has focused on four frames of reference: exocentric (world-based, such as “Go north”), egocentric (self-based, “Turn to my left”), addressee-centered (otherbased, “Turn to your left”) and object-centric (objectba...
